Overview
Channel Management in Aquila is a powerful feature that only Aquila customers can configure. It enables them to define and control communication pathways between different organizations on a per-project basis. This feature is essential for the Plan Approval, Non-Conformity Reporting (NCR), and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) modules, where multiple parties need to collaborate effectively.
As the Aquila customer, you have exclusive control over:
- Setting up communication channels for each project
- Assigning company roles and permissions
- Managing which organizations can interact with each other
Company Roles
Approving Company
- Authority to create and submit comments
- Final decision-making power over comment status
- Controls the official submission of comments to third parties
Commenting Company
- Collaborates with the Approving Company
- Can create draft comments
- Cannot directly submit comments to third parties
Responding Company
- Typically shipyards or dry-docks
- Receives and responds to submitted comments
- Responsible for implementing approved changes
Flexible Role Assignment
You can assign companies multiple roles within the same project. For example:
- A charterer might be both a Commenting Company (supporting plan review) and an Approving Company (for technical agreements)
- Classification societies might be an Approving Company for some documents and a Commenting Company for others
Best Practices
- Clearly define roles at project initiation
- Review and update channel configurations as needed
- Maintain clear communication about role responsibilities
- Regular audit of channel settings
